Middlesbrough inflict heaviest defeat of Schumacher era on Bolton at home

Middlesbrough delivered a dominant performance against Bolton Wanderers at the Toughsheet Stadium, securing a comprehensive victory in challenging weather conditions. According to The Bolton News, the visitors outclassed their hosts significantly, with the margin of their win reflecting their superior play throughout the encounter. Storm Austen created difficult conditions for both sides, though Middlesbrough's attacking football proved too much for Bolton to contain.

Will Lankshear, the Championship's leading scorer, netted twice in the victory, whilst Aidan Morris and Amario Cozier-Duberry added further goals. An own goal from Lewis Brunt completed the scoreline, representing Bolton's heaviest defeat under manager Steven Schumacher. The result ended Bolton's attempts to replicate recent resilience after draws against Southampton and Wolves.

Bolton made four personnel changes from their previous fixture, introducing Kyliane Dong, Ethan Erhahon, Ruben Rodrigues and Thelonius Bair in place of Atsuki Ito, Luca Stephenson, Xav Simons and Sam Dalby. Despite their adjustments, the home side struggled to establish themselves early. Bair did provide momentary encouragement with a goal before half-time, briefly suggesting Bolton might narrow the deficit.

Middlesbrough, unbeaten in their previous eleven matches entering this fixture, created early problems for Bolton's defence. Cozier-Duberry, who had previously been on loan at Bolton, featured prominently in Middlesbrough's attacking play. Bolton squandered a clear opportunity when Ruben Rodrigues failed to capitalise on a through ball from Gaizka Larrazabal early in the first half, with Radek Vitek blocking his effort. Within thirty seconds, Middlesbrough had opened the scoring, with Cozier-Duberry featuring in the move.
