Arsenal appealing a red card for a 16-year-old tells you everything about how soft the conversation around young players has become.  •  Portsmouth finally hiring someone to stop their players from falling apart every other week is less a sign of ambition and more an admission of chronic incompetence.  •  Hurzeler saying Brighton are getting stronger while Liverpool turned them inside out is the kind of self-soothing managers do when they've just been outclassed.  •  Fujimoto's loan move to Tokyo Verdy is what happens when a player can't hack the Championship — at least he'll find playing time somewhere.

Hurzeler praises Brighton’s physical development but identifies areas for improvement after Liverpool defeat

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has acknowledged that his squad is becoming physically stronger through coordinated work across the club's coaching and support departments, though he believes there remains scope for further progress. According to The Argus, Hurzeler expressed satisfaction with the club's approach to player development, noting that individualised programmes in nutrition and gym work are producing tangible results for his squad.

The Brighton head coach highlighted the work of the club's nutritionist Paola Rodríguez-Giustiniani, who was featured in a recent Sky Sports documentary tour of the club's Lancing training ground. Rodríguez-Giustiniani's department focuses on tailoring diets for players arriving from overseas, specifically targeting muscle and strength development to help them adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League. Hurzeler stressed that whilst such physical gains may not be visually obvious from the stands, coaching staff observe clear benefits in their players' capacity.

Despite acknowledging these improvements, Hurzeler indicated that Brighton's 2-0 defeat at Anfield exposed areas requiring attention. He told The Argus that aspects of the Liverpool performance underlined where his side can continue to strengthen, though he did not specify which elements of the match had highlighted these concerns. The manager emphasised that all departments at the club work in alignment, with programmes coordinated across nutrition, gym work and coaching to complement each other's efforts.

Hurzeler stressed the individualised nature of Brighton's approach to player preparation, noting that programmes are tailored to address specific requirements for each player before matches, recovery after matches, and longer-term muscle development objectives.
