Chivu's flu excuse might hold water if Inter hadn't also played like they'd never seen a football before—wrong team selection explains the lineup, not the 3-1 hammering.  •  Giroud at 40 still knows where the goal is better than most players half his age, and that's why Lille aren't sweating in the North.  •  West Ham backed the right horse with Solomon; Adingra's injury problems are making their gamble look smarter than it had any right to be.

Fabregas admits Como fortunate to escape penalty in vital Venezia win

Como secured a 1-0 victory over Venezia at the Sinigaglia, with the result lifting the hosts to 23 points in the Serie A table, two points behind Inter and Lazio. According to Football Italia, Como manager Cesc Fabregas acknowledged that his side were lucky to avoid conceding a penalty during the match when Luis Milla committed a handball offence that went unpunalised.

Lucas Da Cunha converted a first-half penalty to settle the contest. Fabregas described the win as holding significant value, emphasising the difficulty of securing victories in football given the demanding fixture schedule his squad is managing. He noted that Venezia managed only one shot on target whilst Como kept a clean sheet.

The Como boss highlighted the physical and mental toll of successive matches with minimal training time available. Speaking to DAZN and in his post-match press conference, Fabregas stressed that his players have adapted well despite the relentless calendar, though he acknowledged the challenge of maintaining standards under such circumstances.

Fabregas indicated that Como are operating without several wide players due to injury, specifically naming Assane Diao and Jesús Rodríguez as unavailable. He reflected on the importance of one-on-one wingers when facing defensive setups but stated he avoids discussing absent players with the squad, instead focusing on how those available can adapt their interpretation of their roles.

Como face a Champions League trip to Lens on Wednesday before hosting Inter the following weekend, offering little respite in their fixture schedule.
