Walker can acknowledge it all he wants, but City's 114 charges aren't going away because players kept their heads down.  •  Bayern and Arsenal both played like they'd rather be anywhere else, which tracks for a midweek Champions League dead rubber.  •  Kargbo's back from the dead, which is fine, but Blackburn need him to actually change something rather than just exist on the bench.  •  PSG reminded Barcelona that even a good season means nothing when you run into a team that wants it more, especially in Paris.  •  Brighton are heavy favorites and shouldn't need to sweat a Conference League opener against a mid-table Czech side, so expect them to do exactly that.

Newcastle lose to Aston Villa as defensive woes continue at St James’ Park

Newcastle United fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Aston Villa on October 17, according to reporting from Coming Home Newcastle. Johan Manzambi's first-half header proved decisive, with the Villa player scoring in the 36th minute after receiving a cross from Joao Gomes from the right flank.

The loss marked Newcastle's second Premier League defeat in six days, following a 4-1 reverse at Coventry. Under manager Matthias Jaissle, the hosts managed only one shot on target and were booed by supporters at both half-time and full-time.

Newcastle's defensive troubles deepened, extending their run without a home clean sheet across all competitions to a club-record 16 matches. The hosts faced disciplinary concerns early, with Joelinton booked after 18 minutes for a challenge on Manzambi. Sven Botman received a yellow card for a subsequent tackle on Nicolas Jackson, with a VAR review declining to recommend an upgrade despite the force of the challenge.

Manzambi, who came close to joining Newcastle during the summer transfer window, capitalised on the hosts' vulnerabilities. Before his goal, Jackson had already tested Lukas Hornicek with a direct effort.
