Millwall boss Neil acknowledges handball miss but criticises defensive lapses in Lincoln draw
Millwall manager Alex Neil has acknowledged that the referee probably made an incorrect decision in failing to penalise Lincoln City for a handball during their 2-2 draw at The Den, according to reporting by Southwark News Millwall. The incident occurred in the build-up to Rob Street's goal, which the striker finished by powering the ball past Filip Marschall. Neil noted that the assistant referee did not spot the handball, which also prevented the ball from going out of play.
Despite recognising the officiating error, Neil stressed that Millwall should have managed the situation more effectively through better defending. He pointed to wider issues in his side's performance, particularly in the opening stages when Lincoln scored within thirty seconds through Andrei Coubis's volley from distance after a series of defensive mistakes.
Neil identified specific weaknesses in Millwall's early play, explaining that poor positioning and communication allowed Lincoln to capitalise on loose moments. He stated that certain elements of their defending were too unstructured and required significant improvement moving forward.
Millwall responded after half-time, with Kyrell Lisbie and Jake Cooper scoring to secure a point from the match.
