UEFA has confirmed the host venues for the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals, sending European club football’s biggest game back to Munich before a landmark return to Barcelona.

The Munich Football Arena, widely known as the Allianz Arena, will stage the 2028 final. Barcelona’s redeveloped Camp Nou has been awarded the 2029 decider, beating London’s Wembley Stadium in the bidding process.

The announcement was made by UEFA on Tuesday, September 15, following a meeting of its Executive Committee in Thessaloniki.

Where is the 2028 Champions League final?

The 2028 Champions League final will be played at the Munich Football Arena in Munich, Germany.

It will be the third time the stadium has hosted the competition’s showpiece. Chelsea famously defeated Bayern Munich on penalties there in 2012, while Paris Saint-Germain won their first European Cup at the venue in 2025.

Munich was the only declared bidder for the 2028 final, and UEFA has now formally confirmed the German city as host.

Camp Nou wins the 2029 Champions League final

The bigger bidding contest was for 2029. UEFA has selected Barcelona’s Camp Nou ahead of Wembley Stadium, bringing the final back to the Catalan city for the first time in 30 years.

Camp Nou last hosted the Champions League final in 1999, when Manchester United scored twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich 2-1. The stadium also staged the 1989 European Cup final.

The 2029 match is expected to showcase the extensively redeveloped Camp Nou. The renovation project began in 2023 and is designed to turn Barcelona’s home into one of Europe’s largest and most modern football venues.

Where is the 2027 Champions League final?

Before Munich and Barcelona take their turns, the 2027 Champions League final will be staged at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday, June 5, 2027.

The Madrid venue previously hosted the 2019 final, when Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

UEFA also confirms Europa League and Conference League hosts

UEFA’s announcement extended beyond the Champions League. Bucharest will host the Europa League final in 2028, followed by Belgrade in 2029. The Conference League final will head to Turin in 2028 and Budapest in 2029.

Lyon has been selected for the 2028 Women’s Champions League final, with Cardiff hosting in 2029.

For Barcelona, however, the headline is the return of Europe’s biggest club match to Camp Nou. Thirty years after one of the Champions League’s most famous finishes, the rebuilt stadium will again provide the stage for the continent’s two best teams.
